Lori has only a few days of nursery school left before starting primary. He’s worried about this because since his big sister has been at primary school she hasn’t felt like playing with him much. My Red Hat is my first author-illustrated picture book. It follows a grandparent and grandchild as they adventure through everyday and imaginative settings, whilst exploring all the different things a hat can be and do. It was selected for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2020 illustrator’s exhibition, shortlisted for the Klaus Flugge prize 2021, and has been translated into seven different languages.
“A hat can do many things. It can keep you warm and dry, it can hold your dreams and cover your fears.
In this gentle meditation on love and memory, a grandfather passes down to his grandchild the joyful anticipation of a life lived with wonder and openness…and a very special hat.”
